"Mooser Wasserprozession"
There is no Hausherrenfest ( feast day of the Radolfzell patron saints ) without the Mooser Water Procession. The origin of this procession is closely related to the history of the town as a pilgrimage site. One of the main reasons that so many pilgrims visited Radolfzell was the bleak situation of the rural population. In addition, a devastating livestock disease broke out at the beginning of the Napoleonic wars, shortly after the French Revolution. Within only a few days the whole livestock perished.
In their bitter misery, the rural population seeked refuge in prayer and sacrifice.
"Anno 1797"
After the terrible livestock epidemic, the parishes of the Höri vowed to make a yearly water procession to Radolfzell to the Holy Patrons and pledge for help. This vow is still kept by the citizens of Moos, a small village opposite Radolfzell, at the yearly Hausherrenfest.
With floral decorated boats the pilgrims cross the lake in the early hours of Hausherren Monday, led by a boat carrying secular and spiritual dignitaries from the parishes.
In the Radolfzell harbour they are welcomed by the town representatives, the local clergy, the costume group, the town orchestra and then are led to the cathedral in a festive procession.
There the "Mooser Church Service" is celebrated.
